Welcome to the AMC Candidate Account Service

The AMC takes the health and wellbeing of all the people we work with seriously. The AMC examinations bring people together from all over the world, which presents a potential risk to people following the outbreak of the coronavirus.  The AMC is responding to this risk and has been guided by publicly available information from the Australian Government’s Department of Health.

The AMC’s response to date;

MCQ examinations

All the February 2020 MCQ examinations in mainland China have been cancelled and scheduled examination candidates have been provided with an opportunity to reschedule.  Further advice regarding future examinations will be provided at a later date.

Clinical examinations

·      The clinical examinations scheduled for 19, 20 and 21 February 2020 will continue to be held at the NTC in Melbourne Australia.

·      All clinical examination participants relevant to the examinations on 19, 20 and 21 February are being contacted to determine if they have been potentially exposed to the coronavirus. This includes contacting candidates, examiners, simulated patients, marshals, and staff.

·      As part of this contact, participants are being asked to advise the AMC and review their participation in the examination based on the following questions:

o    Have you visited Hubei Province or anywhere in mainland China in the last 14 days?

o    Have you been in contact with or live with anyone who has been to Wuhan city or mainland China in the last 14 days?

o    Have you been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with coronavirus?

·      If the answer to any of these questions is yes, it is critical for the participant to advise the AMC as soon as possible to help ensure the examinations are as safe as possible and run smoothly for candidates. Participants have been asked to respond to the AMC by Friday 7 February 2020.

·      Some clinical examination participants have asked the AMC if they can wear face masks at the examination. Please note, the wearing of a face mask in the examination will not be permitted for the following reasons:

o    If an examination candidate is wearing a facemask it will be difficult to hear what a candidate is saying when assessing communication skills, taking a history, undertaking a differential diagnosis, or advising a management plan etc.

o    If a simulated patient is wearing a facemask it will impact the ability to understand key points of critical information required by the candidates and the examiners.

o    If an examiner is wearing a facemask it will be difficult for a candidate to hear key information critical to the examination.

·      The AMC is undertaking significant measures to minimise risk and face masks will not be allowed in the examination due to the above impacts to candidates.

·      For candidates who wish to withdraw from any of the above examinations, the standard withdraw procedure and fees will apply.

·      Examiners, simulated patients and marshals who may have concerns are asked to contact a relevant staff member as soon as possible should you prefer to cancel your appointment .

·      The AMC will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and provide further information regarding future examinations as more information becomes available. Website notices and communications with examination participants will be ongoing as required.

The AMC will continue to be guided by the Australian Government’s Department of Health and the World Health Organisation (WHO).  WHO is working closely with global experts, governments and partners to rapidly expand scientific knowledge on this new virus, to track the spread and virulence of the virus, and to provide advice to countries and individuals on measures to protect health and prevent the spread of this outbreak.
